Yeah, what actually got my attention was that it wasn’t the first time i read it, though i could not remember the original comic page.
I don’t know if anyone has pointed it out, but certain words may have connotations beyond their basic meaning. “amante” while literally meaning “lover” may be somewhat stronger than “amor” (love) or “querido” (dear).
Admitedly, i’m speaking from a firsthand experience in portuguese, that is related but not quite the same and might be worrying about nothing…
Or it could be on the “perro caliente” (hot dog) x “perro caliente” (horny dog) level of connotation difference. THIS is a confusion i’m pretty sure does strikes native spanish speakers of different countries on occasion. 😛
