Saving the City: Sans-Spandex

Hope everybody is staying in, and staying safe.  It’s a good time for an archive binge!

Yes, the books are all different colors than they were last week. gnomes.

Meanwhile, back at the human conversation…

Can’t wait to see how this conversation turns out…

Yes! I always knew there had to be a lot more to Mack’s powers than when she was first depicted. Remember when she and Val got mind-swapped and Val promptly came up with several potent new uses of her known powers? All she needs to be an awesome hero is some focus and training, which I think Val knew all along.

I personally know a few women that would love to use microgravity to avoid the heavy duty bras. I admit that the last two panels gave me a good snicker.
Still loving Val’s hair. If only my hairdresser could properly cut it like that.

  4. Caf says:

Small typo in the next-to-last panel: Its “continuum”

    Re: the alt text.
It’s not that gnomes are re-arranging the books, they only LOOK like they’re different colors.
What’s really happening is that Mac is subconsciously red-shifting and blue-shifting light at random around her. She’s still working on control.

  6. The passing critic says:

Nope sorry talk up Macks powers as much as you like they still have the crippling dissability of being attached to Illumina so i think the time space continuum is safe.

  7. The Vicar says:

…She’s eventually going to travel back in time and prevent the Coroner from killing whathername, isn’t she.

  8. Didn’t Val go into the future for some reason a while back? Or was that a dream?

  9. w.h.y. says:

Hm, is light-bending supposed to be due to her light powers or gravity powers? Logically, it should be the light manipulation, since a “gravitational” cloaking (if even possible) would likely have a whole bunch of undesirable side-effects.

  10. Twitch says:

This is all very good information, but the engineer in me wants to know.
“HOW IS SHE CONTROLLING GRAVITY?” It’s not like a magnetic field. The simplest definition is based on mass and distance.

    • Dex says:

My guess she somehow creates her own gravity field to counter act the current oneso where its usually pushing down hers pushes up simpler than it could be but heres one hypothesis

      • SpyOne says:

It doesn’t appear to work that way. I mean, yes she could be floating by creating an equal pull of gravity abover her. But then everything around her would float too.
And she isn’t altering mass, because light objects don’t float (unless they are less dense that air).
So what it looks like she is able to do is reduce the effect of gravity on a object (including a person, or even a part thereof). Her boobs don’t float because they are also. Eing pilled upwards, they float because they aren’t being pulled down (as hard).

No idea how that works from a physics standpoint, but …. I believe gravity is more of an “observed phenomenon” kind of thing in that we know it works, and we know how it works, but we don’t 100% know why. I imagine if we had people who were able to affect gavity it would let us learn a lot about why it works.

  11. Xero says:

Nowval just has to figure out the powers of the dark

  12. SpyOne says:

Remember folks: the “future” Val said it was an alternate universe, but “future” Mack said it wasn’t, and they both agreed that if it wasn’t an alternate universe Mack would be in a lot of trouble for using time travel because of how dangerous that is.

If you think that Val would lie to protect Mack, especially if Val knew what Mack had done was the right thing to do, then you can’t be sure “future” Val ws telling the truth.

  13. Mischa Avros says:

And if we look at the changes in procedure concerning how “future” heroes handle dangerous threats, it seems like it could be an eventual conclusion of what Val and Dion were talking about.
