I wonder how many other bad guys he’s caught that ended up “not fine”…

  • NJM1564 on April 27, 2016 at 1:39 AM

Small type to there on the work small. You spelled it msall.

  • Kia on April 27, 2016 at 1:55 AM

Did your reply have that many typos in it on purpose?

  • Noclevername on April 27, 2016 at 2:02 AM

It’s a new model, the Pontiac Msall.

I wonder if Shiver would’ve gotten along with Frank Castle(Punisher)???

  • J on April 27, 2016 at 12:39 PM

I have to wonder how much paperwork is involved, transferring someone from the hero agency to the villain agency.

Leaving perps like that sounds like it involves lawyers, cops, and the repetition of the phrase “regrettable loss of life.”

  • David Johnston on April 27, 2016 at 1:41 PM

For the record…he’s right. People breathe about 11 litres of air per minute. A subcompact car has about 2500 litres of air. The criminal has over 3 hours of more or less breathable air. I think the couple of inches of ice that the car is coated in will melt off on a summer day before he’d be in danger even if the cops never show up. Shiver isn’t a monster or a killer vigilante. He’s just a jerk with an ice chip on shoulder.

  • CaptRory on April 27, 2016 at 2:56 PM

There’s also the consideration of buildup of carbon dioxide but I’m guessing someone will be by with a hair dryer before that becomes an issue.

  • Mike on April 28, 2016 at 8:37 PM

@CaptRory The engine would stall the moment the ice blocked the intake or exhaust so the motor wouldn’t be running in there.

  • Pastangum on May 1, 2016 at 6:14 PM

The risk only comes from how much does he panic and/or rage in the first half-hour. High adrenaline actions would use up air faster; I am *not* any sort of expert on this so I couldn’t give numbers. But low oxygen concentrations would make him feel tired, and once the jacker settles down, there should be sufficient air.

… Making it extra-appropriate for Shiver to tell the perp “Freeze!” (Sorry.)

At that point any further risk would be of hypothermia, since ice actually absorbs a lot of heat; shivering is the body’s way of generating heat by moving quickly. Depending on how thick the ice is, the cops might have to treat a case of frostbite.

roll down the driver side window and knock the ice out.

  • Lukkai on April 27, 2016 at 7:54 PM

There is, but carbon dioxide is heavy and will tend to sink towards the floor of the car. As long as he stays sitting upright, it will still be quite some time before the concentration gets dangerous.

Using the heater would also make the melting process faster. Not too good on the battery and certainly not a comfortable option though.

  • Kaian on April 27, 2016 at 8:03 PM

Vents are covered in ice two. Not sure how the heater or engine will like that since it is in the ice with him. And I still ask about. Did she have a child in there with her?

  • livvy on April 28, 2016 at 1:24 AM

If there was a child in that car, I imagine she would have mentioned it in that first
    panel.

  • Kaian on April 27, 2016 at 8:03 PM

Wow now I am doing typos. Two for too.

  • David Johnston on April 29, 2016 at 3:18 AM

No. The Heroes have actual legal immunities to go with their licenses. They don’t give statements. They make reports (to the Agency). It doesn’t look like they’re expected to testify (perhaps due to Secret ID issues) so statements to the police would be a waste of everyone’s time.

  • Ed Rhodes on April 27, 2016 at 10:02 PM

Leagaleese moment here. Don’t the cops have to take a statement from the hero who actually performed the stop? (Can’t call it an arrest if they didn’t actually arrest anyone.) Could Shiver (and Sidekick Girl, to a degree) be considered material witnesses leaving the scene of a crime?

  • Katy on April 28, 2016 at 2:58 PM

Pardon the pun but he is one cold super.
Wonder what sort of property damage the thief can cause inside the car before the cops get out. Shiver is a special kind of a-hole.

Someone has an issue with following the rules…

Dispite not looking especially old Im starting to get the feeling the guys put in a loooong time with the hero agency,The way he responded to Vals question just makes it feel that people have asked him about the air thing alot!

    Though Im certain the criminals got more than enough air to survive on til the cops turn up I imagine that things will not be fun in the airtight car for him with the steadily increasing supply of carbon dioxide ^^;

  • Tilly the Hun on May 2, 2016 at 12:08 AM

I can’t believe no one’s noticed the obvious joke here.

    “Um, is my car-”
    “No, it’ll be fine.”
    Followed up with:
“It’s a small car… What if he runs out of air?”
    “He’ll be fine”

  • xero on May 7, 2016 at 1:54 AM

typo msall car* should be small car
